Teenage Cancer Trust has appointed Julie Worrall as its permanent chief executive with immediate effect.
Worrall has been interim chief since January, following the resignation of Kate Collins, who has become a strategy and leadership consultant.
At the time, Collins said it was the “right time for fresh leadership”, after 16 years with the organisation, eight of which she spent as chief executive.
Worrall, who was the charity’s director of engagement, also spent time as acting interim chief in autumn 2025, when Collins took medical leave to recover from spinal surgery.
Worrall brings more than 20 years’ experience at organisations working to improve the lives of people affected by cancer, including a stint as interim chief of World Child Cancer UK between December 2022 and January 2024.
She also spent two years as chief executive of the cancer charity Penny Brohn UK from 2020 to 2022.
Worrall was also director of fundraising and development at Above and Beyond Charity between September 2018 and October 2020.
Before this, she spent nearly 12 years at Young Lives vs Cancer in various roles, including associate director of income and engagement.
Worrall said: “Every day I hear directly from young people about the difference this charity has made to them. Theirs are the voices that drive me, and compel me to turn my own experience of cancer as a young person into a force for good.
“I’m looking forward to working alongside extraordinary peers and partners across the health sector, and with our frontline teams and charity staff, to make sure that we can be there to support all young people with cancer who need us.”
Paul Spanswick, chair of Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “Julie and her team can now put in place an ambitious strategy for Teenage Cancer Trust that matches what we know we can achieve for young people, who continue to face a system that doesn’t meet their unique needs.”
