OSCR begins advertising for next chair

The Office for the Scottish Charity Regulator has started the hiring process for its next chair.

The regulator announced this week it had begun recruiting for the successor to Marieke Dwarshuis as she comes to the end of her term on 14 October.

The OSCR chair is appointed by Scottish ministers and usually serves a four-year term with the possibility of an extension to eight years.

Dwarshuis was appointed in 2022 and previously held senior roles at Citizens Advice Scotland and Shelter Scotland.

It is understood she did not seek a second term as chair of the OSCR.

Dwarshuis also sits on the board of the Scottish Housing Regulator and was on the Scottish Legal Aid Board between 2016 and 2023.

In a statement about the post it is looking to fill, the OSCR said: “The chair plays a pivotal role in guiding OSCR’s strategic direction, ensuring that we fulfil our statutory responsibilities and remain responsive to the evolving needs of the sector,” OSCR said.

“Working closely with the chief executive and fellow board members, the chair will ensure robust governance and accountability.

“The chair acts as a key external representative for OSCR, engaging with stakeholders including government, the charity sector, parliament and the public.

“The role requires sound judgement, strong leadership and the ability to balance support and challenge.”

The regulator will hold an online information session at 12.30pm on 20 July for those interested in the role.
