Dementia charity appoints new chief

The Eric Liddell Community, an Edinburgh-based dementia care charity, has appointed Megan Veronesi as its chief executive.

Veronesi, who joined on 1 April, brings more than 15 years’ experience in the voluntary sector to the role, having held senior roles at Royal Trinity Hospice, Firstport and Edinburgh World Heritage.

She succeeds John MacMillan, who left in March to become managing director of the Hibernian Community Foundation, after a decade leading the dementia charity.

Veronesi has been a full-time freelance consultant since October 2024, but has supported clients on a part-time basis since 2023.

She was also interim director of Edinburgh World Heritage from January to September last year.

Before freelancing, Veronesi was the head of business development and innovation at Firstport for Social Entrepreneurs Group, Scotland’s development agency for start-up social enterprises, where she worked for more than five years.

She has also been the head of charity partnerships at Farewill and at Royal Trinity Hospice.

Veronesi said the Eric Liddell Community “plays a vital role in supporting people living with dementia and unpaid carers, while also serving as a vibrant and treasured community hub in the heart of Edinburgh”.

She said: “I look forward to working closely with the team, volunteers and partners to build on these strong foundations and ensure long-term sustainability in an increasingly complex environment.”

Irene Adams, chair of the Eric Liddell Community, said: “Megan’s breadth of experience and leadership within the sector make her exceptionally well placed to lead the charity through its next phase of development.

“We look forward to working with her to continue delivering meaningful impact for those we support.”
