A charity which supports seriously ill children and young people in hospital has confirmed the appointment of Cheryl Tissot (pictured) as its permanent chief executive.

Tissot, who has held the role at Rays of Sunshine on an interim basis since November, said she was “excited and honoured” to lead the organisation “during such an exciting and transformative period.

“We had a hugely successful 2022, and have started the new year strong, with much more to come,” she said.

Tissot joined the voluntary sector in 2014 after working for companies including Microsoft, Invesco Asset Management and Gilead Sciences.

She served as chief executive of the national volunteering charity Pets as Therapy before joining Rays of Sunshine.

Stephen Allan, chair of Rays of Sunshine, said: “In the last three months, Cheryl has more than proved her dedication to our wonderful charity and her ability to lead it with warmth and confidence.”

The charity organises interactive hospital activity days and grants wishes to children and young people living with serious or life-limiting illnesses.

According to the Rays of Sunshine website, the charity has reached over 80,000 children and their families since its formation in 2003.
