Heat Director Michael Mann Accidentally Shoots Himself at LA Gun Range

“Yesterday at around 4 p.m., officers responded to the 11000 block of Missouri Avenue for a radio call for shots fired at that location,” the LAPD statement reads. “Responding units’ investigation determined the shooting to be accidental. The subject was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. An injury report was completed.”

According to Deadline, the incident is not expected to delay work on Heat 2, which is scheduled to begin production in January, 2027. The director, who has been nominated for four Academy Awards and is the winner of two Emmys and a BAFTA, is also responsible for films including Hunter (1986) and The Last of the Mohicans (1992); he is also known for creating the acclaimed television series Miami Vice.

Michael Mann’s latest film, the sequel to 1995 crime classic Heat, will explore the origins of the characters played by Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in the original film. Its cast reportedly includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, and Adolescence creator Stephen Graham.
