Pete Garratt has become international chief executive of The Leprosy Mission.
Garratt, who joined the charity this week, brings nearly 30 years’ experience across a variety of faith- and non-faith-based international charities to the role.
He succeeds Brent Morgan, who worked for the leprosy charity for nearly two decades at both The Leprosy Mission International and The Leprosy Mission New Zealand.
Morgan was appointed as the charity’s international director in 2016, but will retire at the end of this month.
Garratt previously worked at The Leprosy Mission for nearly six years, between 2014 and 2020, as head of operations support.
He was most recently director of global programmes at Hope and Homes for Children, a role he held from September 2022.
Before this, Garratt was executive director of programmes and people at Street Child from 2020 to 2022. He was also a trustee for Street Child between 2013 and 2019, including just over a year as chair.
He previously worked for the British Red Cross as a disaster response manager in two separate stints, between 2013 and 2014, and from 2008 to 2010.
Garratt said: “I am deeply honoured and humbled by the trust placed in me to return to lead The Leprosy Mission International.
“Our calling to serve those affected by leprosy with the love of Christ and to see leprosy defeated and lives transformed is as important as ever.
“I feel the passion and commitment that everyone connected with this cause carries with them, and I am pleased to stand on the shoulders of so many giants of faith from our 150-year history of excellence and achievement.”
Fiona Davidson, chair of The Leprosy Mission, said: “Pete is someone with the vision to grow TLM in the season to come, beyond its current sphere of influence and activity, and into a very bright future.”
