The Game of Thrones franchise has grown significantly from its modest beginnings in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels and even from its eventual HBO series that would go on to become a global phenomenon. Since Game of Thrones‘ final season aired back in 2019, House of the Dragon has completed three successful season, with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms debuting to critical and fan acclaim earlier this year.
Further, the franchise has now been adapted to stage in The Mad King, while a franchise first feature film just got a set release date for 2029. Beyond its live-action adaptations, Game of Thrones fans have had several unique video game adaptations as well, with Kingsroad, Game of Thrones: Legends, the recently released Dragonfire, and the upcoming launch of Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, a compelling new RTS that will let players “rewrite” the original HBO series’ ending.
However, one of the longest-running Game of Thrones projects to date just hit a massive milestone after nine incredible years, and it’s officially the dawn of a new era for the franchise.
Game Of Thrones Enters A New Era After Nine Years
The ninth anniversary of Game of Thrones: Conquest marks the beginning of an exciting new era for the long-running strategy game, with developer Warner Bros. Games Boston introducing several major gameplay improvements alongside a month-long celebration of the franchise’s legacy. According to the official October announcement, the festivities kicked off on October 7, 2026, with the introduction of two brand-new research trees, Military III and Dragon Combat, designed with community feedback in mind.
The anniversary celebrations also include exclusive cosmetics, special rewards, and several quality-of-life improvements. Players can unlock the Weirwood Tree Pawn through an anniversary login event running from October 7–25, while a new Weirwood Tree Banner Sigil and two additional avatars are available to everyone. Improvements to reinforcement sorting, bookmark organization, crafting filters, and equipment management are also being introduced throughout October.
Meanwhile, the Halloween-themed Old Nan’s Tales event brings an especially exciting new dragon to the game, with Undead Viserion, inspired by the dragon’s resurrection at the hands of the Night King during Season 7 of the show. The new hero arrives with his own event on October 26, alongside new Free Folk equipment and additional dragon gear.
Conquest Is Among Game Of Thrones’ Most-Played Games
Nine years after its original release in October 2017, Game of Thrones: Conquest remains one of the franchise’s most successful video games, particularly when it comes to its enormous mobile audience. While other Game of Thrones adaptations have come and gone, Conquest has maintained a dedicated community through regular content updates, seasonal events, and expansions inspired by both the original HBO series, House of the Dragon, and even A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
No matter your thoughts on mobile games, Conquest‘s impressive download figures and user ratings don’t lie. According to its official Google Play listing, Conquest has surpassed 10 million downloads on Android alone, maintaining a respectable 4.3/5 rating from approximately 327,000 reviews. Meanwhile, the App Store lists an even higher 4.4/5 rating, based on roughly 90,000 ratings.
While cumulative downloads don’t necessarily reflect how many people are still actively playing, the continued support from developers has helped Conquest stay relevant well beyond the end of the original television series in 2019. With the ninth-anniversary celebrations introducing substantial gameplay improvements and fresh content, Game of Thrones: Conquest has a bright future ahead and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
