A community support charity has closed its homelessness day centre after four years due to financial issues.
The Foxton, which is based in Preston, Lancashire, provides homelessness, youth and women’s support services in the local area.
The charity closed its day centre on 25 September due to reduced funding but said it was “incredibly proud” of the centre’s work.
The Foxton previously announced it would close its centre following a review of its homelessness support work in Preston.
“The centre has supported thousands of people, thanks to the incredible backing of volunteers, businesses, residents and partner agencies,” the charity said.
“With resources stretched, we must make sure services work together and funding is focused where it can have the greatest impact.
“Preston City Council is developing its day-centre provision, while Foxton will continue to work in partnership with the council and others to support people experiencing homelessness.”
The Foxton said it would not be stepping away from homelessness support and would make no redundancies as a result of the centre’s closure.
The charity employed two full-time and three-part time staff at the centre and said these employees would be redeployed within The Foxton’s other homelessness services.
“Our dedicated teams will continue to provide outreach and targeted support for people experiencing homelessness, alongside specialist services for vulnerable women and young people and our wider work at Foxton Youth and Community Centre,” the charity said.
Foxton recorded income of £3.7m and costs of £2.1m according to its latest accounts, for the year to the end of March 2025.
The charity declined to comment when asked how much money it would save following the closure.
“[25 September] was a really emotional day for the Foxton team as, after four years of supporting hundreds and hundreds of people who were homeless or at risk of homelessness, we closed the doors on our Fox Street site,” the charity said.
