Hogwarts Legacy is three years old, but it’s been getting extra attention ever since it was dropped for free on platforms like the Epic Games Store. With the HBO TV show debuting later this year, it’ll likely get even more attention as fans await more information on the sequel.
Strangely, WB Games hasn’t really released a major expansion for Hogwarts Legacy, despite it topping overall game sales charts for several years. It seems like a missed opportunity, but we could see an even bigger push for the sequel, and maybe even a season pass.
For now, while it’s not an expansion for a sequel, Hogwarts Legacy is getting some free DLC, courtesy of an official post on X.
This month, Hogwarts Legacy is giving away a free Astronomer’s Hat DLC, which you can claim now. Here’s the full statement from the official X account for Hogwarts Legacy: “To celebrate #BackToHogwarts we’re giving away the Astronomer’s Hat to all players, for free! To claim the Astronomer’s Hat for Hogwarts Legacy, visit the Hogwarts Legacy digital store page on the platform where you own the game. Select the Astronomer’s Hat for purchase and you’ll be able to download it free of charge. Available for download between August 31, 2026 and September 30, 2026.”
In other words, all you need to do is go to the Xbox, PSN, or PC storefront where the game is listed, and look for the free DLC. You have from now until September 30 to grab it, and all it takes is a single click. On some platforms, you can even grab it if you don’t own the game, so give it a go if you’re planning on checking out Hogwarts Legacy at some point.
Previously, the Astronomer’s Hat was linked to pre-orders, but now everyone can redeem it for one month. Given how many pre-order tie-ins there are for AAA games, it gets exhausting, but this is a decent way to allow everyone else to join in with extra cosmetics.

If you already own Hogwarts Legacy and pre-ordered it from Amazon, odds are you already have the Astronomer’s Hat. But since this DLC is a separate “purchase,” it’s worth redeeming it anyway, just to be sure.
