The chief executive of Climate Outreach is leaving after three years in post.
The charity, which focuses on public engagement with climate change, said Rachael Orr was leaving to take an “exciting new role in the climate sector”, which is yet to be revealed.
In a LinkedIn post, Orr said she would be leaving in September, with news to follow about her next role soon.
Orr has been chief executive of Climate Outreach for three and a half years, before which she spent four years as chief executive of the social housing network PlaceShapers.
Climate Outreach said that during Orr’s tenure, she had helped the organisation “go from strength to strength”, leading on new programmes of work and forging “hundreds of invaluable partnerships”.
The charity said: “Rachael’s strategic direction has helped shape Climate Outreach into the dynamic organisation we are today, seeing our work across research, advocacy and communications be more ambitious than ever.”
Orr said it had been an honour to lead the charity, saying: “I’ve met so many brilliant, smart, driven and passionate leaders, thinkers and advocates who care deeply about climate, nature and futureproofing the UK.
“I’ve loved being able to work on projects such as Britain Talks Climate and Nature, Climate Visuals and our advocacy work, including how the government prioritises public engagement.
“But the best part of my job has been working with my fabulous team and delivering workshops to people and communities across the country thinking about how they can tell their climate story to inspire more action.”
Zoe Macalpine, chief income officer at Climate Outreach, will lead the charity on an interim basis from early September.
