The former leader of Victim Support Scotland has been appointed to lead the homelessness charity Cyrenians.
Kate Wallace joined the charity at the end of June, succeeding its former chief Ewan Aitken, who left the top job after 12 years.
Aitken said leaving Cyrenians would be “very hard” but, after more than 30 years of leadership roles in the public and charity sector, it was time to “slow down a little”.
Wallace, who has most recently been working as a consultant, brings more than three decades of experience in the public and charity sectors to the role, including eight years as chief executive of Victim Support Scotland from 2017 to 2025.
She was also chief executive of the disability charity Visualise Scotland from 2014 to 2017, before which she held various senior roles at Barnardo’s for three and a half years.
Wallace has also worked at Creative Scotland and the Scottish Association for Mental Health.
Wallace said: “I have long admired the work of Cyrenians and I am delighted to be taking on leadership of this fantastic organisation, which understands that homelessness is rarely experienced in a vacuum and must be understood as much [as] a side effect of broken systems, inequality and cyclical poverty as it is a lack of housing.
“At a time when too many people are being pushed into crisis, I want to build on Cyrenians’ strong foundations and work alongside staff, volunteers, partners and the people we support to drive lasting systemic change.”
