Xbox Officially Makes Iconic Open World Game 100% Free For 24 Hours

Xbox is officially making a huge, iconic open-world game 100% free for all players to enjoy, but only for the next 24 hours, so if you’re looking for something new to play, this may be the opportunity. The majority of what is considered free on the Microsoft gaming platform is often locked behind its main subscription service. For example, Xbox Game Pass got a huge 140-hour RPG just recently, but only members of the Premium, Ultimate, and PC Game Pass will be able to enjoy it without having to pay anything extra.

Nevertheless, every once in a while, Microsoft makes some of its premium games entirely free for all players, even if only for a limited time. This is not referring to completely free-to-play games, like Genshin Impact, but to paid games that go on free trials. Now, as was reported by Pure Xbox, a major Xbox game is going completely free, and players will have about 24 hours to experience it – with access to the entirety of its content.

As part of the Xbox Free Play Days initiative, Microsoft is making State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition entirely free to play for every player who owns an Xbox. This free Xbox download with no Game Pass requirements can be played entirely up until late June 14, when the offer expires. It is worth noting that the game is already available for every tier in the Xbox Game Pass catalog, so this offer is mostly for those who aren’t subscribed to the service.

Nevertheless, even if you are a Game Pass member, the Free Play Days initiative may serve as an incentive for you to check out the game – and if you enjoy it, you’ll be able to continue playing it well past June 14 thanks to your membership. If you want, you can check out beginner tips for State of Decay 2 and start playing it on your Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S consoles this weekend.

If the open-world zombie sim gameplay isn’t exactly your style, despite just how much fun content it has to offer, this isn’t the only game being made free for players to check out over the weekend. As part of the initiative, Microsoft is also offering a free 5-hour trial of Blasphemous 2 for anyone with an Xbox console to check out, no Game Pass membership required.

However, if you are a Game Pass member, you may want to check out Hell Let Loose for free, as this title, which is also part of the Free Play Days program, is being offered entirely for free, but only for subscribers. There’s always a lot going on in the Xbox ecosystem, and while State of Decay 2 is an impressive limited-time freebie to play, there’s always something for everyone.
