It’s “Depressing” Alex Honnold’s Tool Playlist Overshadowed His Actual Climb

Maynard James Keenan says he found the hype surrounding Alex Honnold’s Tool-centric climbing playlist “depressing” believing it “overshadowed” his accomplishment of scaling the Taipei 101 skyscraper live on Netflix last month.

“It’s actually depressing that what gets the attention is not the fact that this idiot is climbing that building, which is still impressive, it’s the playlist,” Keenan commented in an interview with NME. He went on, “But For him, all his accomplishments get overshadowed by a rock band that can’t put out records in a very timely fashion. That’s pretty weird.”

Honnold’s playlist included Tool songs like “Forty Six & 2,” “Invincible,” “The Grudge,” “Lateralus,” “Schism,” and others. You can listen to it here.
