The Children’s Trust has appointed Mike Thiedke as its next chief executive.

Thiedke will join the charity on 13 November after five and a half years in the top job at the youth homelessness charity Depaul UK.

He previously worked at Plan International UK, ActionAid and the United Nations.

Thiedke will succeed Mike Maddick, who has been interim chief executive since 1 December 2022 after the departure of Dalton Leong.

Leong left the position after nine years to pursue non-executive roles, including as non-executive director at Surrey Downs Health & Care Partnership and as a trustee of the National Emergencies Trust.

Maddick will return to his substantive role as director of resources.

Thiedke said: “For the past 15 years, my career has been dedicated to providing opportunities for children and families to live the best life possible – a value that also drives the work of The Children’s Trust and every member of staff who works here.

“I will strive to maintain momentum on the charity’s recovery plan to help us build a strong foundation on which to launch our ambitions for an exciting future, where we can do even more and better for the children with brain injury and neurodisability and the families we exist to support.”

Steve Flanagan, chair of The Children’s Trust, said Thiedke’s “extensive experience and expertise, coupled with his passion for making a positive difference to the lives of children and families, will help to drive the organisation towards its goal of a secure and exciting future”.

The Children’s Trust provides specialist rehabilitation, education and community services for children and young people with brain injury and neurodisability.

The charity’s latest annual accounts, covering the financial year ending 31 March 2022, report total income of £28.9m.
