A children’s reading charity has announced the appointment of its new chief executive.

Bookmark confirmed Emily Jack took over from Graihagh Crawshaw-Sadler from 1 September.

Crawshaw-Sadler stepped down in July and is moving on to be the chief executive of the teacher training charity Now Teach.

Jack is a qualified teacher and has worked with Bookmark for 18 months as its head of schools.

She previously founded the education provider Kings Tutors, and was a director of the Tutors’ Association from 2019-2021.

During her time at Kings Tutors the organisation was voted the best Charity, Education and Public Services company to work for at the 2017 JobCrowd Awards.

Jack said of her appointment: “I am very excited about this wonderful opportunity as I have loved my time at Bookmark to date.

“With the support of our chair, board of trustees, Bookmark team and brilliant network of supporters, I look forward to leading the team to implement our plans for future growth; building on our solid foundations to increase the depth and reach of our services, our impact and, most importantly, the number of children supported.

“Bookmark’s mission is very close to my heart – all children must be enabled to experience the joy of reading to have a fairer start in life.”

Bookmark was founded by Sharon Pindar in 2018 and aims to give children the reading skills and confidence they need for a fair chance in life through six-week reading programmes.

Pindar, chair of Bookmark, said: “As an established member of the Bookmark family and with her extensive experience in the education sector and her proven track record to inspire, lead and execute, we are confident that Emily will excel in her new role as CEO.”
