The Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity is aiming to raise £3.5m through a partnership with the London Marathon.

Gosh Charity will be the marathon’s charity of the year in 2023, it announced today.

The charity has been given 487 starting spots for sponsored runners in the marathon, which takes place in April next year.

Louise Parkes, chief executive of Gosh Charity, said she was proud of the partnership, which she hoped would raise millions of pounds to support “cutting-edge medical technology, pioneering research, child-focused environments and essential family support services to tackle serious childhood illnesses and rare conditions like childhood cancer”.

She added: “We’re ready to go, and we can’t wait for you to join us.”

The charity is also inviting supporters to participate in a virtual marathon, which takes place on the same day as the London Marathon and lets runners cover the equivalent distance at their own pace.

Gosh Charity supports the work of Great Ormond Street Hospital and has raised more than £150m in the last two years, according to financial filings with the Charity Commission.
