The Bank Workers Charity has appointed Ed Holloway as its next chief executive.

Holloway, who is executive director of digital and services at the MS Society, is the long-term successor to John Mallalieu, who left the BWC in September 2020 after three years to become chief executive of the Leeds United Foundation. Alison Seabrooke covered the interim position for a year.

The Bank Workers Charity, which was established in 1883 as the Bank Clerk’s Orphanage to fund the care of children of bank clerks who were ill or had died, supports current and former bank employees and their families.

Holloway joined the MS Society from the Social Care Institute for Excellence as a research manager in March 2008 and has since then worked his way up his director-level position. He will take up his new role in January.

Tony Ramos, chair of the BWC, said: “I am delighted that having been through an extensive recruitment process we have been able to appoint someone of Ed’s calibre to take on the chief executive role.

“BWC is at a pivotal point in determining how we can successfully assist those in the banking community and their families post-pandemic. Ed’s experience will contribute greatly as to how BWC can position itself to work most effectively in a changing world.”

Holloway said: “The need for charities to be relevant for the people they help has never been greater and BWC serves a wide community in a number of diverse ways.

“The opportunities for us to continue to increase our relevance and engagement are considerable, and I look forward to working with the team and trustees to achieve this.”
