COMIN’ OUT THE OTHER SIDE REVIEW By Edmund Barker

Music

Film composer and songwriter Randy Edelman is perhaps best known these days for his work with orchestras on soundtracks such as Dragonheart, Ghostbusters II, and The Last of the Mohicans, but he has roots in the dreamy world of sixties and seventies pop. He harkens back to that sound he honed through collaborations with The Carpenters and Barry Manilow on his new single “Comin’ Out the Other Side,” a hopeful anthem for better days ahead.

The optimistic song takes a look back at the incredibly uncertain and perilous past year-and-a-half we have been through and promises a better kind of life just over the horizon—quite literally like coming out on the other side of a steep slope in a storm to see clear blue skies. Edelman’s energy in the vocals is irresistible, channeling the frustration of everyone who has felt cooped up in one spot for an eternity and yearns for something different as we enter a new year.

The song’s light, late summer-ish sounds of acoustic guitars and piano bring to mind camping and hikes away from the rat race, imagery that the music video’s rustic cinematography gamely nods at. “Comin’ Out the Other Side” is a very sweet and earnest release that will charm anyone who reminisces about classic power pop.
