Charities and community groups are being invited to apply for a share of £3.5m to develop “dream projects”.

The People’s Postcode Lottery opens its annual Dream Fund for applications today, with grants of between £500,000 and £1.25m available over three years.

Organisers said they were looking for applications from projects that sought to provide “innovative solutions and deliver systematic change in either environment and conservation, social inequality, or pandemic recovery”.

The PPL said it was encouraging applicants to “think big and be as creative as possible” in developing schemes that were “a genuine dream”.

The scheme has given out more than £16m to 32 projects across Britain over the past nine years.

Applications must come from two or more organisations, with a registered charity leading the partnership.

The lead partner must have an annual income of at least twice the amount the project is applying for.

Laura Chow, head of charities at the PPL, said: “The Dream Fund has made a remarkable difference to so many projects over the last nine years, and I have no doubt that we’ll see many more bold and courageous ideas submitted this year.”

Applications will be open until 1 November and funding decisions are expected to be announced in March.
