A major UK retailer has raised more than £40m for Cancer Research UK as part of a 17-year partnership.

TK Maxx announced yesterday that it had reached the milestone with the UK’s biggest cancer research and awareness charity.

In a statement, the retailer said the money raised would help ensure more children and young people survived cancer with a good quality of life, and that £37m had already supported research to help accelerate the development of better treatments.

Since the beginning of the partnership, TK Maxx said its customers and staff had helped collect more than 1.7 million bags of clothes, accessories and homewares.

This amounts to more than 8,800 tonnes of items donated to the charity to be sold in its shops.

The total raised after the 17-year partnership makes the retailer the biggest corporate supporter of the campaign Cancer Research UK for Children & Young People, which is raising funds for projects including a paediatric brain tumour research centre.

Launched in 2019, the centre brings together expert researchers from around the world to develop treatments for children diagnosed with brain tumours.

Caro Evans, director of partnerships at CRUK, said: “TK Maxx and Cancer Research UK have formed a brilliant partnership over the years and its colleagues and customers never cease to amaze us with their tireless fundraising efforts, including the hugely successful Give Up Clothes For Good Campaign.

“It’s thanks to long-term partnerships like this that we will be able to continue to fund research to help ensure more children and young people with cancer survive with a good quality of life. We really can’t thank TK Maxx enough for its ongoing support.”
