SCVO awarded £200k to provide employment support to the sector

The Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations has been given a £200,000 grant to provide employment support for charities.

The funding, from the National Lottery Community Fund, is designed to help the umbrella body deal with a huge increase in demand for human resources support caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The SCVO said queries about employment law through its information service had doubled since March, and there had been a large increase in requests for information about furlough, maintaining a positive work environment, remote working and employee mental wellbeing.

Lorna Forrest, head of service delivery and improvement at the SCVO, said the £204,056 in funding would help it to provide specific support, guidance and advice to charities in Scotland.

“We know that a strong third sector is key to a stable recovery from Covid-19 and, thanks to support from the National Lottery Community Fund for our new HR and employment support service, we are now better equipped to help organisations of all sizes to cope during these difficult times.”
