Third Sector Awards shortlist revealed

Charity

The British Red Cross, the charity partnership formed by the merger of Asthma UK and the British Lung Foundation, and the The Bread and Butter Thing, which supports people on low incomes, are among the organisations to be shortlisted for Charity of the Year in this year’s Third Sector Awards

The awards, which recognise the achievements of charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises, feature 26 categories, including Rising Chief Executive, Fundraising Team of the Year, Brand Development and Best Charity Film.

The shortlist for the Charity Chief Executive award includes Gemma Peters of Blood Cancer UK, Juliet Bouverie of the Stroke Association and Sarah Elizabeth Brook of The Sparkle Foundation, which supports vulnerable children in Malawi.

At last year’s awards, the sexual offender rehabilitation charity the Safer Living Foundation was named Charity of the Year and Stephen Hale of Refugee Action was named Charity Chief Executive of the year.

Hale is chairing this year’s panel of judges, which also includes Arvinda Gohil, chief executive of Central YMCA, Girish Menon, chief executive of ActionAid UK, Jo Hobbs, chief executive of the British Youth Council, and Ravi Gurumurthy, chief executive of the innovation charity Nesta.

The winners will be announced at a virtual event that will take place over the evenings of 7 and 8 October.

The awards are supported by headline sponsor Markel, which is running a social media campaign for the chance to win a free entry to next year’s Third Sector Awards, plus a bottle of Champagne to celebrate this year’s virtual winners announcement.

To be in with a chance of winning, simply tweet your excitement about the awards over the next week using the hashtag #MarkelShortlistShoutout.
