Disability charity rebrands

The Cheshire Centre for Independent Living has changed its name to Disability Positive

The charity, which supports more than 10,000 people with disabilities and long-term health conditions in Cheshire and north-west England, said the new name would help it to “reconnect with its values and shine a positive light on disability”.

It began the process of rebranding last year amid concerns the old name incorrectly implied the charity offered supported housing.

It hopes the new name will better reflect the work it does in the community.

The charity worked with the agency JG Creative to develop the new name and brand identity, which it has already begun using.

It has updated its website, social media channels and printed materials, and rebranded its Northwich headquarters.

Disability Positive employs 70 staff, most of whom have a disability or long-term health condition.

Lynne Turnbull, chief executive of the charity, said: “As a charity that is run by people living with a disability or long-term health condition, we believe that people are not disabled by their condition, but by a world that doesn’t meet their needs.

“This year has been a particularly challenging year for many people, so it feels even more important that Disability Positive is here to make the world more accessible and to help society to understand disability in a more positive way that brings people together.”
