Winners of Weston Charity Awards announced

Charity

The 19 charities that will receive strategic support and funding through the Weston Charity Awards have been revealed.

Organised by the grant-making charity the Garfield Weston Foundation with the leadership charity Pilotlight, the awards rewards front-line charities with annual incomes below £5m in the fields of community, welfare and youth located in the north of England, the Midlands and Wales.

The award-winners, including Action for Elders and Carers Support South Lake, will each receive a year of tailored strategic planning support from Pilotlight’s team of senior business and charity leaders, in addition to a grant of £6,500.

Other successful charities include Grace House North East, which provides respite care for young people, and the domestic abuse organisation Rochdale Connections Trust.

Philippa Charles, director of the Garfield Weston Foundation, said the award puts charities “in a really strong position to survive, adapt and thrive into the future” given the increasing demands for services and raised financial threat because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Bruce McCombie, interim chief executive of Pilotlight, said: “Weston Charity Award recipients are selected on the strength of their ambitions and their openness to external perspectives, attributes that will help them benefit most from working with our Pilotlighters.”
