Moser Streamliner Flyback Chronograph, the Schaffhausen brand’s first luxury sports chronograph

Luxury

The luxury sports watch segment rises to fever pitch as 2020 opens with H. Moser & Cie’s latest entry, the Streamliner Flyback Chronograph Automatic. The limited edition Moser Streamliner chronograph with central indications rewrites old rules with new case, a new integrated bracelet, a new movement, a new dial, and new hands in a completely new Streamliner collection, the first luxury sports series with an integrated bracelet for the Schaffhausen brand.

H. Moser Streamliner Flyback Chronograph, the Schaffhausen brand’s first luxury sports chronograph with integrated bracelet

The Moser Streamliner Flyback Chronograph took five years of development and exhibits clean, fluid lines with free-form curves from its cushion form watch head through to its supple integrated bracelet. With a mix of brushed and polished finishing, 42.3mm steel H. Moser Streamliner chronograph comes alive with clever plays of light and shadow, revealing rare grace among modern luxury sports watches.

Inspired by the GPHG award winning Perpetual One

Evocative of the first rounded and aerodynamic high-speed trains from the Twenties and Thirties, the Streamliner, from whom this Moser flying chronograph takes its name, follows the same undeniable Moser genetics espousing purity of form and aesthetics – like the GPHG winning Perpetual One, the world’s most legible perpetual calendar, the Moser Streamliner Chronograph is minimalism at its best, bereft of individual subdials and a myriad of indications save only the central hands from which all chronograph functions are displayed.

Understated, ergonomic and supremely legible, the Moser Streamliner is a flyback chronograph that displays the time rather than a watch with chronograph functions. In fact, unlike the Singer 1 Chronograph which also offers central indications, the Moser Streamliner is the first integrated automatic chronograph with a central display to offer a flyback function.

New movement, new dial, new aesthetics for world’s newest luxury sports watch

Collaborating with specialist movement atelier Agenhor, watchmakers at H. Moser & Cie might have created the world’s most legible flyback chronograph but beneath its brushed anthracite grey fumé dial beats a heart of high complexity. The Calibre HMC 902 developed with Agenhor with self-winding rotor sandwiched between movement (made possible since everything revolves around a central pinion) and dial, facilitating admiration of the hand finished flyback chronograph and its running operations and of course its column wheel.

Featuring two chronograph hands, one for the minutes and one for the seconds, and two time display hands, one for the hours and one for the minutes, the newest luxury sports watch comes in thinner than most other flyback chronographs of its genre. At 14.2mm thick, the Moser Streamliner flyback chronograph hides a special innovation: utilising retrograde principles,  the elapsed minute hand performs instantaneous jumps using the energy accumulated and then released by a snail cam, allowing Moser’s first luxury sports chronograph to be read with greater precision.

Beautiful inside and out, the brand’s signature fumé dial has been reinterpreted: joining griffé to anthracite shade of grey. Alas, considering its raison d’etre as a timekeeping instrument, the periphery of the dial is home to crucial chronograph markings – two white and red minute tracks, the outer one measuring the seconds and the inner one counting the minutes while the giant 60 where the usual 12 should be, calls to mind stopwatches. While the red chronograph seconds hand and the minute hand are not particularly noteworthy, the minute hand indicating hours and minutes are special for its Globolight, an innovative ceramic-based material which contains Super-LumiNova, making is world premiere on hands. Limited 100 pieces.
