This morning the American Library Association (ALA) announced the top prizes in children’s and young adult literature, including the Caldecott, Newbery and Printz awards.

BATCHELDER AWARD, for an outstanding children’s book originally published in a language other than English in a country other than the United States, and subsequently translated to English for publication in the U.S.: The Fox on the Swing by Evelina Daciūtė, illustrated by Aušra Kiudulaite


PURA BELPRÉ AUTHOR AWARD, for a Latinx writer whose children’s books best portray, affirm and celebrate the Latino cultural experience: Elizabeth Acevedo for The Poet X (HarperTeen)

PURA BELPRÉ ILLUSTRATOR AWARD: Yuyi Morales for Dreamers (Neal Porter)

Pura Belpré Illustrator Honor Books:


Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Award for most distinguished information book for children: The Girl Who Drew Butterflies: How Maria Merian’s Art Changed Science by Joyce Sidman (HMH)
