In a recent conversation with Kyle Meredith, Troian Bellisario opened up about her latest role in On Call, the gripping new police drama coming to Prime Video. Listen above or wherever you get your podcasts.
Known for her breakout role in Pretty Little Liars, Bellisario takes on a completely different challenge here, with On Call diving deep into the moral complexities of modern policing, blending body cam, dash cam, and cell phone footage to deliver an unflinching, immersive experience. “It’s not just about solving cases,” Bellisario tells Meredith. “It’s about the human beings wearing the badge and the messy realities they face.”
On Call pairs Bellisario’s jaded veteran officer with Brandon Larracuente’s idealistic rookie, creating a tension-filled dynamic that mirrors real-world generational divides. To prepare, Bellisario joined police ride-alongs, where she quickly realized the emotional weight of the role. “You have to act like you’ve got it together, even when you’re reeling inside,” she says, noting the fine line the show walks between action and morality
Balancing the intensity of On Call with life off-screen, Bellisario reflects on how being a mother has shifted her perspective. “Most of this year, I’ve been in mom mode,” she says with a laugh. But writing has also become an essential creative outlet for the actor, something she credits her parents for encouraging. “If the roles aren’t there, create your own work,” she shares.
