Brain tumour charity unveils next boss

Charity

Brain Tumour Research has appointed Dan Knowles as its next chief executive.

Knowles, who has spent the past seven years as chief executive of Oxfordshire Mind, succeeds Sue Farrington Smith, who co-founded Brain Tumour Research in 2009.

Farrington Smith, who will join the charity’s board, announced in April that she would be retiring after undergoing treatment for cancer.

Knowles, who will join Brain Tumour Research next week, began his career in strategy consultancy and has held senior roles at the retailer John Lewis and the beverages, food and snacks corporation PepsiCo.

“I am excited to bring everything I have learnt both in the corporate and third sector to this wonderful organisation,” he said.

“Brain Tumour Research has achieved so much, and we have much more to do. There has never been a better or more important time to seek greater awareness, funding and research.

“I look forward to playing my part in grasping the opportunity to make a step change in the coming years in terms of advancements in our understanding of brain tumours, bringing forward new treatments and, ultimately, finding a cure.”

Wendy Fulcher, chair of Brain Tumour Research, said: “We are very pleased to be welcoming someone of Dan’s calibre and charisma, experience and ability to lead Brain Tumour Research into an exciting new chapter and are excited by all that can be done to take us ever-closer to our vision of a cure for all types of brain tumour.”
