Peter Babudu has been appointed as the new executive director at Impact on Urban Health, part of Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation.

He joins the not-for-profit organisation, which aims to address how living in cities impacts people’s health, from the Youth Endowment Fund, where he has spent four years as the assistant director of research and youth understanding.

A lifelong resident of the London borough of Southwark – where, alongside Lambeth, Impact on Urban Health focuses most of its energies – Babudu has also spent the past four years as a Labour councillor.

Babudu, who will also join the executive team of Guys and St Thomas’ Foundation, said: “I’m honoured to take on the role of executive director for Impact on Urban Health.

“Improving health in urban areas is an immense challenge. But, under my leadership, I’m determined Impact on Urban Health will continue to improve people’s health not just in our home boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark, but in other inner-city areas.

“I’m excited to lead this dedicated and talented team as we continue toward our shared vision of making urban areas healthier and fairer places to grow up, live and work.”

Laurie Lee, interim chief executive of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Peter to Impact on Urban Health. Having spent most of his adult life working to address inequality, Peter is bringing invaluable experience that will support our mission to improve health in urban areas.”

Babudu takes over from Sarah Hickey. She has served as Impact on Urban Health’s interim executive director since Andy Ratcliffe – who assumed the role in December 2020, according to his LinkedIn profile – left earlier this year to become director of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change.
