HM Revenue & Customs is offering £5.5m to voluntary sector organisations to help people who need support with their tax affairs.
HMRC said the funding, which will be worth £1.8m a year from 2024 to 2027, wlil be available through its Voluntary and Community Sector Grant Funding programme.
Bids can be submitted between 24 July and 21 August with successful organisations being announced in October, ready for the new funding to start from 1 April 2024.
HMRC is inviting bids for funding of between £30,000 and £600,000 a year, with a maximum threshold set at 50 per cent of an organisation’s turnover.
It said it was looking for organisations that would provide free advice and support to people who face barriers in understanding their tax obligations and claiming their entitlements; are digitally excluded from accessing HMRC services; or have any other difficulty in interacting directly with HMRC.
Funded organisations will also provide insight to HMRC to help it improve its understanding of customers in vulnerable circumstances.
Angela MacDonald, deputy chief executive at HMRC, said: “We know that customers really value the trusted tax advice they receive from our voluntary and community sector partners.
“The funding programme is an important part in our commitment to support our hardest-to-reach customers and builds on the current support HMRC offers to those who may need extra help with their tax affairs.”
