The sight and hearing loss charity Deafblind UK has appointed Nikki Morris as its new chief executive.

Morris will be replacing Steve Conway, who retired at the end of 2022 after leading the charity since 2018.

Prior to joining the organisation, Morris worked as deputy chief executive and director of operations at Big C Cancer Charity for nearly seven years and spent four years as chief executive of Age UK Camden.

She was awarded the British Empire Medal in 2022 for services to Camden during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Morris is a registered nurse and has been the chair of the Royal College of Nursing Cancer Forum since 2015.

She joined Deafblind UK on 1 January.

Robert Nolan, chair of Deafblind UK, said: “The board of trustees and I are delighted to welcome Nikki to Deafblind UK and we are excited about what the future holds for the charity under Nikki’s leadership.”

Morris said: “I am delighted to join Deafblind UK as CEO at such a pivotal time in its development.

“With the increasing numbers of people affected by multisensory loss, Deafblind UK’s work is in high demand. Despite the challenges that we all face with the rising cost of living, our commitment to providing services to those in need is as strong as ever.

“We have a clear vision with exciting plans to deliver and a strong team. I look forward to playing my part in making the UK a more accessible and enjoyable place for all those affected by deafblindness.”
