Action for Children has appointed from within to fill its chief executive vacancy on a permanent basis, it announced today.
The charity named Paul Carberry, who has worked for it for 28 years and is the current national director for Scotland.
He will take up the chief executive role in March – succeeding Melanie Armstrong, who has been in post on an interim basis since March 2020 and announced earlier this year that she would be stepping down.
Carberry started at AfC as a project leader in Scotland in 1994.
Chair of trustees Sarika Patel said: “Paul is well placed to take the organisation forward. He knows our charity well and has built up a huge wealth of experience across children’s services as national director for Scotland and also as national director for England.”
She added: “The Trustees and I are very grateful to Melanie, who took on the role in 2020.
“She has steered the charity through the pandemic, led on stabilising our finances and has overseen the introduction of our new strategy to ensure our vital work continues with children, young people and families.”
