A “vital” committee supporting small charities should be up and running by the end of this year, the National Council for Voluntary Organisations said.
The NCVO and Foundation for Social Improvement announced six months ago that they would create a small charities advisory group to maintain some of the work previously carried out by the Small Charities Coalition.
The group has been established to make sure the views of small charities are “leveraged, rather than lost” after the SCC went out of business earlier this year.
Most of the committee members have already been appointed, the NCVO said.
The NCVO and FSI announced in March they would host some services transferred from the SCC before it wound down in March.
One member of staff moved from the SCC to the NCVO as part of the arrangement.
An NCVO spokesperson said: “The advisory group will be made up of 13 members – six small charity members, two funder members and five infrastructure members. At least one of the infrastructure members will have a specialism in volunteering.
“The first round of recruitment for the advisory group took place between July and September.
“We currently have seven of the 13 group positions filled and are shortlisting for the remaining six.”
They added: “We are incredibly grateful to the members of the SCC who have helped us with recruitment of these vital positions.
“We will announce membership of the group when recruitment has been completed. We anticipate this will happen by the end of the year.”
In its final report, published the week it closed, the SCC said small charities would always need “a dedicated place to go for support and a voice to represent them in the corridors of power”.
