DEC Pakistan appeal reaches £25m in two weeks

Charity

The Disasters Emergency Committee has raised £25m through its appeal to help people in Pakistan affected by recent floods.

The total, which was updated yesterday, includes £5m in match-funding from the UK government.

The appeal was launched a fortnight ago, after flooding affected more than 33 million people in Pakistan and left more than 1,400 dead.

The money is being spent on emergency help by 11 of the DEC’s 15 charity members, including Cafod, Care International UK and Tearfund.

Saleh Saeed, chief executive of DEC, said: “At this time of national mourning especially, we are so grateful to everyone across all four nations of the UK who have donated to the DEC Pakistan Floods Appeal.”
