Speculation that Rita Ora and Taika Waititi have gone ahead and gotten married started over the weekend when the singer posted Instagram pictures on Sunday in which she appears to be wearing a wedding band. It only intensified when Ora’s sister posted a photo of Waititi showing the director wearing a silver ring on his left ring finger.
Now UK tabloid The Sun has a report that the couple have quietly gotten married in an intimate ceremony held in London. “It was a really intimate ceremony and super special for everyone there. Their nearest and dearest can see how madly in love they are,” a source told the outlet. “Despite living in the spotlight, Rita is determined to keep the relationship as private as possible and didn’t want to make a big song and dance about the wedding. A big, showbiz-style bash is planned to celebrate, but don’t expect to see it being flogged to the highest-bidding magazine.”
Whatever their marital status, the pair haven’t missed a beat in their professional lives with Ora already back in the recording studio putting together new music. The insider added, “Rita’s already back in the studio working on her third album, with her latest session being with Ava Max and Noah Cyrus’ writer Rollo.”
Back in June, The Sun also reported that Ora and Waititi had gotten engaged after making almost “simultaneous” proposals to one another and were wasting no time planning their wedding. A friend told the outlet at the time, “This isn’t about them doing a big showy thing and crowing about it beforehand. It’s just about them being in love and deciding the time is right to formalize their relationship. They couldn’t be happier.” They added that the couple eventually want to have a big celebration, “with all their famous friends there. But for now it’s about getting down the aisle and making things official. There are a few details to iron out, but it’s coming soon and it’ll be beautifully intimate and perfectly them.”
Ora and Waititi have been dating for around a year and a half, going public with their relationship for the first time last year on the red carpet at the premiere of Suicide Squad. But while they’ve only been romantically linked for 18 months, the duo have actually been friends for years. In February, Ora shared a tribute to her boyfriend on Instagram, posting a series of photos of the two of them together with the caption, “Us. 4 years ago. To now. thanks for being cool. And entertaining me forevs..Happy Valentine’s Day bestie.”
Representatives for Ora and Waititi did not immediately respond to Vanity Fair’s request for comment.
