NSPCC trading arm’s income returns to near pre-pandemic levels

The NSPCC’s trading arm contributed more than £1m to the charity in 2021/22 as the company’s revenues returned to pre-pandemic levels.

The donation is nearly double the amount made the previous year, when trading and fundraising events were affected by months of coronavirus restrictions.

The figures are included in the NSPCC Trading Company accounts for the year ending in March 2022. The company is wholly owned by the charity and donates its post-tax profits to the NSPCC each year.

Its principal activities cover corporate sponsorship, fundraising and sale of goods, as well as licensing fees connected to the use of the NSPCC logo.

The company’s total revenues in 2021/22 were £1.5m, compared with £898,000 the year before. It generated a profit of £1m, compared with £578,000 in 2020/21.

In the last full financial year before Covid-19, the company made £1.7m and donated £1.4m.

The income last year includes nearly £880,000 raised from one-off fundraising events, up by a factor of 16 from just £54,500 in 2020/21, when large public gatherings were not allowed.

An NSPCC spokesperson said: “As a result of the pandemic the NSPCC, like other charities, missed out on income that we would normally expect to receive due to events being postponed or cancelled.

“We are pleased to see the revenue of NSPCC Trading pick up, thanks primarily to fundraisers taking part in events once again.

“It is thanks to all our generous supporters that we can continue in our mission to prevent abuse and neglect.”
