Battersea appoints two new directors

The animal welfare charity Battersea has appointed Julian Holmes-Taylor as director of income generation and Amy Jankiewicz as director of operations.

Holmes-Taylor has been appointed to the new role after spending the past 18 months as interim director of fundraising following the departure of Catherine Miles.

Before joining Battersea, Holmes-Taylor was assistant director of income generation at the RSPCA and previously worked at charities including the British Red Cross, Leonard Cheshire and Scope.

His new role encompasses areas of income generation such as retail, which was not previously covered by the fundraising director’s position.

Jankiewicz will join Battersea in November from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, where she is a programme director.

She has had a varied career that has also included roles at organisations such as Guide Dogs, the Great Britain Target Shooting Federation and the British Army, which included a tour in Afghanistan with the Royal Marines.

She said: “By using my varied career strands, I hope to add much value in helping support today’s pets in need through the intake, care and rehoming of dogs and cats with one of the UK’s favourite charities.”

Holmes-Taylor said: “I have no doubt that the next few years in Battersea’s history will be exciting and challenging in equal measure.

“As we emerge from the pandemic, we will need to embrace innovation and new opportunities as well as navigate uncertainty, ensuring that our income enables our staff, volunteers, partners and supporters to create a brighter and sustained future for every dog and cat.”

Peter Laurie, chief executive of Battersea, said the two appointees would be “tremendous assets” for the charity.
