Prince Harry is back in the U.K. ahead of the unveiling of Princess Diana’s statue in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace. His wife, Meghan Markle, stayed home in California with the couple’s two children, Archie Harrison and Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana.

On Friday, the same day Harry returned home from L.A., Queen Elizabeth was seen driving to Frogmore Cottage, Harry and Meghan’s former home, per Hello! magazine. The Queen and her U.S.-based grandson are very close.

“I’ve spoken more to my grandmother in the last year than I have [in] many, many years,” he said to Oprah Winfrey in March. “My grandmother and I have a really good relationship and understanding, and I have deep respect for her.”

In his interview with James Corden in February, Harry also mentioned how much he stayed in touch with his grandparents (ahead of his grandfather’s death in April). He added that the Queen and Archie also have a special relationship, even from afar.

“Interestingly, my grandmother asked us what Archie wanted for Christmas and Meg said a waffle maker. She sent us a waffle maker for Archie…so breakfast now, Meg makes up a beautiful organic mix, in the waffle maker, flip it, out it comes, he loves it. Archie literally wakes up in the morning and says ‘waffle.’”

Hello also reported that Harry was seen at LAX on Thursday evening and was photographed arriving at Heathrow airport in London on Friday.

This is the first time Harry will see his brother, William, since their grandfather Prince Philip’s funeral in April and since Lilibet’s birth.

The brothers announced the statue in January 2017 in a joint statement, ahead of the August 31st 20th anniversary of Diana’s death.

“It has been 20 years since our mother’s death and the time is right to recognize her positive impact in the U.K. and around the world with a permanent statue. Our mother touched so many lives. We hope the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on her life and her legacy.”

In a rare joint statement in August 2020, the brothers announced that the statue unveiling ceremony would take place on July 1, which marks the late princess’s 60th birthday.

The ceremony will reportedly be attended by close members of the Diana’s family and her sons, princes William and Harry. Sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley and garden designer, Pip Morrison will also attend, per a press release, reports Town & Country.
