Queen Elizabeth’s Grandson Peter Phillips and His Wife Autumn Finalize Their Divorce

A source previously told Vanity Fair that the pair “have grown apart” and “this is something of a conscious uncoupling.”

Almost a year and a half after announcing their separation, Peter Phillips and his ex-wife Autumn have finalized their divorce.

The former couple released a joint statement on Monday revealing that all the financial aspects of their divorce have been resolved and approved by the High Court. The statement read, “Whilst this is a sad day for Peter and Autumn, they continue to put the wellbeing and upbringing of their wonderful daughters Savannah and Isla first and foremost. Both Peter and Autumn are pleased to have resolved matters amicably with the children firmly at the forefront of those thoughts and decisions.” It concluded, “Peter & Autumn have requested privacy and consideration for their children as the family adapts to a new chapter in their lives.”

The pair first met in 2003 at the Formula Grand Prix held in Montreal, getting married in 2008 at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. Phillips, who is the only son of Princess Anne, is the first royal in his generation to get a divorce. When their separation was announced in February of last year, sources close to the couple told Vanity Fair that “This is something of a conscious uncoupling.” They continued, “There is no acrimony, very sadly they have grown apart. The idea that Peter was blindsided isn’t correct. They have been having discussions about their marriage for some time and the family have been aware that things haven’t been going well since last autumn.”

But despite their divorce, Autumn is still very much a part of the family and, according to a family friend, will continue to work closely with both Peter’s sister, Zara Tindall, and her husband, Mike, whose celebrity golfing events she helps organize. “She sees Mike and Zara every day and that won’t change. They’re all very close,” the source said. “The family are sad but supportive of the situation. As for Peter and Autumn, they are taking it step by step.”
