Grants of up to £350,000 available through final round of the Tampon Tax Fund

Charities working with disadvantaged women and girls can apply for up to £350,000 in grant funding from the government after it made £11.25m available from the final funding round of its tampon tax scheme.

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport said the Tampon Tax Fund, which has been redistributing VAT collected on sanitary products since 2015, will have given more than £90m of funding to support women and girls charities once this final round is completed.

The UK was unable to remove all VAT on sanitary products while it was a member of the EU, but did so when its membership came to an end in January.

The DCMS said it wanted to encourage applications from specialist women’s networks whose projects included making onward grants to other women’s’ charitable organisations to ensure this round of funding reached as many disadvantaged women and girls as possible.

Baroness Barran, the minister for civil society, said: “The support provided through this final round will ensure specialist charities who receive grants can support women and girls in need, and help to become more sustainable and plan for the future.

“We remain as committed as ever to ending violence against women and girls which is why this category is a priority for this round of funding, and we will continue to tackle the issue as a priority.”

Grants can go towards 12- or 18-month projects and all activities must be concluded and funds spent by 31 March 2023.

The deadline for applications is 4 July.
