Fundraising bodies publish guidance on cash collections and community events

Charity

The Fundraising Regulator and the Chartered Institute of Fundraising have published guidance covering in-person events and cash collections as coronavirus restrictions continue to be eased across the UK.

The two bodies said the two pieces of guidance, one covering events and community fundraising activities and the other focusing on cash collections, were aimed at helping charities in line with latest government rules.

The organisations said their guidance highlighted relevant government regulations and identified additional considerations that fundraising organisations should think about as they plan community fundraising activities, including social distancing requirements, conducting risk assessments, and capacity limits.

The publications came after the release earlier this month of wider guidance on good practice in fundraising activities

Daniel Fluskey, head of policy and external affairs at the CIoF, said: “We know that some charities and supporters are really keen to return to in-person events and hope this provides reassurance for organisations as they put in place future plans.

“In England, some limited outdoor community and fundraising events are now able to return, with some indoor charity fundraising events able to return at stage three (no earlier than 17 May).

“We expect further details to come out from other UK nations on their roadmaps and confirmation of when fundraising events can return, and will work with our colleagues in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales to get relevant information out to our members across the UK.”
