Marie Curie appoints two senior leaders

Marie Curie has made two appointments to its senior leadership team.

The end-of-life charity has brought in Tiffany Willcox in the new role of chief technology officer and appointed Amanda Oakley Smith as chief financial officer.

Willcox, who joined last week from the optical retailer Specsavers, where she was head of technology, will lead the charity’s IT and data teams and help accelerate its technology transformation in all aspects of its work and services, Marie Curie said.

Willcox has more than 20 years of technology experience in Africa, Europe and the US, according to a statement from the charity.

Oakley Smith, chief financial officer and managing director of business services at the Zoological Society of London, will join Marie Curie on 4 May.

She succeeds Jackie Freeman, who retired at the end of 2020.

The charity’s executive leadership team also includes the chief executive, chief nurse and executive director of quality and caring services, executive director of fundraising and engagement, and the chief people and organisational development officer.

Matthew Reed, chief executive of Marie Curie, said the appointments had been made at an important time for the charity.

“The pandemic has highlighted massive inequalities and shortages at end of life, which has made what we do as a charity even more important,” he said.

“Having the right strategic leadership in place is essential as we plan and build for the future to ensure that we can continue to be there for people at end of life and make a difference to everyone affected by dying, death and bereavement.”

Income at the charity rose £9m in the year to 31 March 2020.
