Third Sector Podcast: Sexual harassment in fundraising

Charity

Content warning: This episode contains discussion of sexual harassment and assault.

In this month’s bumper special episode, features and analysis writer Rebecca Cooney and editor Emily Burt look at sexual harassment and assault in fundraising.

A week ago, allegations were made that the Chartered Institute of Fundraising had ignored allegations of sexual assault occuring at one of its events.

The situation with the CIoF is still developing, and a review is underway, so this episode is not going to dwell too much on those specific allegations.

Rebecca talks to Ruby Bayley, who has been one of the people at the forefront of efforts to highlight and stomp out inappropriate behaviour among professional fundraisers. They discuss what has changed over the last couple of years and what more needs to be done.

Later Rebecca and Emily they share their coronavirus care package – good news stories from the sector this week.

This week the list includes:

  • Pat Bishop, who is marking her 100th birthday by walking 500 steps every day during Lent to raise money for Cafod to support families around the world living without access to water. Her fundraising page can be found here.

  • The launch of new “tap and go” charity donation kiosks at  railway stations around the country through a new partnership between Network Rail, Payment provider Worldline, and Kiosk manufacturer Evoke, in support of a range of homelessness charities.
