Third Sector Podcast: What gives with Giving Tuesday?

Charity

The Third Sector Podcast has gone weekly, and in its first episode, editor Emily Burt and features and analysis writer Rebecca Cooney ask: “What gives with Giving Tuesday?”

Giving Tuesday is celebrated five days after the US festival of Thanksgiving and was launched on the other side of the Atlantic in 2012 as a reaction to the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

These days it is a global movement, with more than 70 countries participating every year.

In this week’s quick-fire conversation, Rebecca and Emily ask if the day resonates with people outside of the charity world, what it means for Christmas fundraising and look at how charities have used it to their advantage.

And they also bring you a slimmed-down version of their coronavirus care package – good news stories that have caught their eye this week.

This week, its Luv2meetU, a friendship and dating agency for adults with learning disabilities and autism, run by the learning disability charity Hft, and the fact that Nottingham has the most charity shops per capita of any city in the UK.
