Welsh Meadery Midas Mead Wins the Green Business of the Year

Luxury

Midas Mead, the luxury meadery and one of only a handful of carbon-negative companies, has won Green Business of the Year at the Swansea Bay Business Awards.

Based in the lush countryside of West Wales, Midas Mead is the UK’s only luxury and bespoke meadery specialising in exclusivity through small, high quality, public batches. Midas Mead also offers a unique, all-encompassing, bespoke service tailored to any desire, thus making the already rare drink truly one of a kind.

On the win, Hamish Murray, the Owner and Founder of Midas Meade said: “We are honoured to have won such a prestigious award, when up against so many other incredibly worthy companies. Our thanks go to the judges for the recognition our tree planting initiative has received.”

Midas Mead’s worldwide recognition as “the most exclusive mead in the world” is built on their dedication to high quality and selectiveness in ingredients used for production. While Midas Mead uses a recipe handed down through generations, their focus on the present and future is refreshing.

The win offers the ideal springboard for the meadery, and Hamish Murray has big plans for Midas Meade: “Following this, we have extended our initiative beyond the initial planned year to 3 years, with a larger focus on fruiting trees to help support our local bird and wildlife population.”

He added “This year, we hope to increase our own bee population and get a few more hives on site. This is one way we, as a company, can continue to reduce food miles, as our ingredients all come from within 10 miles of us.”

“Later this year we have a new product planned for release, something with a little more colour than traditionally seen. But we are still in the experimental stage at this point in time.”

With their reforestation program to regenerate storm-damaged ancient woodland set to run for another year, using native saplings has maintained the bio-integrity of the local ecosystem. On top of this, all their gift boxes and hampers are sustainable card or wicker.
