Amazon Prime’s exclusive vampire apocalypse series Age of the Living Dead returns for season 2 in 2020, and here’s what we know about it so far. Considering its use of the phrase “Living Dead,” many horror fans are likely to first assume this show is a zombie drama in the tradition of The Walking Dead, but that’s actually far from the case. Age of the Living Dead can probably best be described as something akin to the 2009 movie Daybreakers, or the current Netflix series V-Wars, with elements of John Carpenter’s Escape from New York thrown in.
Age of the Living Dead is set in the not too distant future, a time where a vampire outbreak has led America to be quarantined by the rest of the world, in the hopes of containing the undead scourge. The remaining humans now co-exist with the vampires thanks to a very tenuous peace treaty, with humans living on the west coast and vampires on the east. Of course, neither side is really happy with this arrangement, and both are plotting ways to vanquish the other side once and for all.

Age of the Living Dead season 1 ended on a bittersweet note for the humans, as a breakthrough might’ve occurred concerning an anti-vampire drug called Sephora, while on the other side they’re arguably more vulnerable then ever thanks to an EMP launched by Britain. What’s in store for Age of the Living Dead season 2? Here’s what we know.
Age of the Living Dead Season 2 Release Date
Age of the Living Dead season 1 was first aired in Asia on the Fox Action Movies channel in winter 2018, before arriving in the US and UK via Amazon Prime streaming in the summer of 2019. Age of the Living Dead season 2 will follow a similar trajectory in a much more compressed time frame, first airing on Fox Action Movies in Asia in July 2020, then arriving on Amazon Prime in the US and UK sometime in fall 2020. It’s so far unclear exactly when in the fall season 2 will drop on Amazon.
Age of the Living Dead Season 2 Story Details
As previously mentioned, Age of the Living Dead season 1 ended with the promise of a possible breakthrough in the battle against vampirism thanks to the substance dubbed Sephora, as well as the British government making what seems like it’ll be a regrettable decision to hit America with an EMP. This move effectively renders what’s left of American humanity defenseless going into Age of the Living Dead season 2, at least on a grand scale. While normally American weapons are at the forefront of being able to withstand such hits, the fact that the country has spent a decade in quarantine ensures that they’re out of step with the rest of the world on a tech level. As for Sephora, just because it worked one way on one vampire doesn’t mean it will on every vampire, but it could definitely change the tide of battle if used properly. For now, the surviving humans just need to keep fighting the good fight.
