The world’s richest man has announced that he is setting up a £7.7bn fund that will give grants to organisations tackling climate change.

Jeff Bezos, founder and chief executive of the retailing giant Amazon, announced in an Instagram post yesterday that he was giving the funds to establish the Bezos Earth Fund, which will begin giving out grants next year.

It is yet not clear how funds will be distributed, how any application process might work and if UK-based organisations will be eligible to apply.

Bezos, who founded Amazon in 1994, has an estimated net worth of £100bn.
