Baroness Barran will remain the Minister for Civil Society after Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s first major reshuffle following the election in December.

Number 10 confirmed on Friday afternoon that the Conservative peer, who was first appointed to the role in July, had been confirmed in the position once more.

Barran, who has been a member of the House of Lords since 2018, will be reporting to a new head of department after Oliver Dowden succeeded Baroness Morgan as the culture secretary

Before entering the Lords, Barran was chief executive of the domestic abuse charity Safe Lives, which she led between 2004 and 2017.

She also spent three years as head of grant development at the think tank New Philanthropy Capital, and worked in asset management and for a hedge fund before moving into the charity sector.
