Justin Bieber signed his first music deal, with Island Def Jam Records, when he was 14 years old. Before that, he was a YouTube sensation, and it was there that Usher discovered Bieber’s voice and talent.

Now, Bieber is 25 years old, married to Hailey Baldwin, and just put out his fifth studio album, Changes. During an interview with Apple music’s Zane Lowe, Bieber spoke about another teen star, Billie Eilish, and why he says he’ll be there to protect her.

“Let her do her thing and if she ever needs me, I’m gonna be here for her. But yeah, just protecting the moment because people take for granted encounters,” Bieber said as he began to cry. “Yeah, so, yeah, I just want to protect her,” he continued. “I don’t want her to lose it. I don’t want her to go through anything I went through. I don’t wish that upon anybody. If she ever needs me I’m just a call away.”

Eilish saw the interview and shared it on her Instagram with the message “stream Changes.”

Bieber responded to Eilish’s post with the comment “love you!” His wife, Baldwin, responded with “❣️.”

During his interview with Lowe, Bieber also spoke about his past relationship with Selena Gomez and said that experience helped inform his relationship with Baldwin.

“I think I was just hurt from my previous relationship…In my previous relationship, I went off and just went crazy and went wild, just was being reckless,” he said. “[With Hailey Baldwin] I took the time to really build myself and focus on me, and try to make the right decisions and all that sort of stuff. And yeah, I got better.”
