Sacked DJ ‘stepping back’ from charity ambassador role

The DJ Scott Mills is “stepping back” from his ambassador role at a multiple sclerosis charity after his sacking from the BBC over a historical allegation of sexual offences.

Mills was dismissed from his role as a presenter and DJ last month as the BBC said it was made aware of a 2017 police investigation into Mills involving a victim under the age of 16.

A spokesperson for the MS Society said Mills was stepping back from his ambassador role of more than 10 years while the charity “reviews the situation”.

The spokesperson said: “We take concerns of this nature and the trust placed in us as a charity extremely seriously.

“Our priority is the MS community and ensuring we can continue to support everyone living with and affected by MS.”

In a statement, Mills said he faced an allegation in 2016 of a “historic sexual offence” which was the subject of a police investigation that he “fully cooperated and responded to” in 2018.

“As the police have stated, a file of evidence was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service, which determined that the evidential threshold had not been met to bring charges,” the statement said.

The childhood cancer charity Neuroblastoma UK reportedly cut ties with Mills as an ambassador last week but the charity did not respond to Third Sector when asked for confirmation.
